The air filter is designed to be installed in the vacuum/pressure line between the pump and the tank and shall be positioned as much as possible close to the pump (FIG. 1 / FIG. 2). The air filter prevents external parts to entering into the pump. The layout shown in the pictures, with the outlet duct on the side, prevents that excess dirt enters into the pump during maintenance operations. The cartridge maybe cleaned by reversing the flow in pressure mode. We recommend connecting the filter to the pump using stainless steel pipes (to prevent wet and dry corrosion, in particular when used as water filter).
